Bishop Junious Augustus Blake, Jr. was born the eldest of two sons to the late Bishop J. A. Blake, Sr. and Mrs. Lula Champion Blake in Jonesboro, Arkansas on August 26, 1937.
He gave his life to the Lord at a young age, and received his early education and training in Little Rock, Arkansas, where his father served and ministered in the work of the Lord. As a child Bishop Blake was blessed to sit at the feet of our founder, Bishop Charles Harrison Mason, and many of the pioneers of our great church, who were often in the home of his father.
In 1947, the Lord called the Blake family to serve in San Diego, California, where Junious continued to grow in the knowledge of the Lord, and received his basic and higher education. Bishop Blake was a young man of varied interests and aptitudes and at the age of 16 years old, he made his first solo flight as a pilot. In 1959, Bishop Blake married the lovely Dorothy L. Payne; to this union three sons were born.
In 1960, Bishop Blake acknowledged his call to the ministry. He served faithfully under the leadership of his father, Bishop J. A. Blake, Sr., as Youth Pastor, Staff Minister and Co-Pastor at the Greater Jackson Memorial Church of God In Christ until 1981, when he was appointed Pastor of Anderson Memorial COGIC in Houston, Texas. At the death of his father, Bishop J. A. Blake Sr., Bishop Blake was appointed pastor of Greater Jackson Memorial by the late Presiding Bishop J. O. Patterson Sr. in 1985. Under his leadership, the church has greatly prospered and continues to be a force for God in San Diego, CA.
Bishop Blake has served the Church of God in Christ in various capacities; as District and Regional Supt., Jurisdictional Secy. of Finance, member of the Board of Directors and an Administrative Asst. in So Calif. 1st Jurisdiction. In the National Church he has served as a member of the Executive Board of the General Assembly and as a member of the Housing Committee.
Although thankful for his varied and extensive higher learning experiences in education, business and vocational fields, Bishop Junious A. Blake Jr. is most grateful to God for his salvation, and for the blessed privilege of serving the Lord as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
He is an anointed preacher and a faithful servant to the body of Christ. Among the brethren, Bishop Blake is known as a man of wisdom, profound insight and love for the people of God. Many young ministers seek him out across denominational lines as a mentor and counselor.
